On February 18, 2026, the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging (PCA), together with Mayor Cherelle Parker, announced a new community safety initiative in partnership with USAging and Ring, an Amazon company. According to PCA, the program will provide donated Ring devices to eligible older adults in Philadelphia to help them feel safer at home.
PCA says the initiative includes up to 1,000 Ring devices, and that each donated device comes with a basic Protect subscription for the life of the device. PCA also reported that priority is expected to go to participants in its Domiciliary Care Program, Caregiver Support Program, and Home-Delivered Meals Program, as well as older adults connected to the Southwest Senior Center and the Firehouse Active Adult Center.
According to PCA, eligibility for the program includes the following basic requirements: applicants must be 60 or older, live in Philadelphia County, have home Wi-Fi, a smartphone capable of running the Ring app, and access to an email address to create an account. Because program details, availability, and enrollment procedures may change, residents should confirm current requirements directly with PCA before applying.
Privacy and sharing settings are also worth reviewing before participating. Ring states that organizations taking part in its donation programs may not require recipients to share video footage, share device access, register the device with a third party, provide proof of installation, or purchase a subscription. Ring also says that users control who can view their footage, and that only content a user chooses to post to Neighbors becomes publicly available there or viewable by local public safety agencies through that app.
